Research is critical to creating a useful and usable product or service. Projects that succeed are based on a solid understanding of business objectives and user needs.
User research
Provides an insight into the needs of the end users you’re trying to reach. Outputs from user research inform the design stage and can be used to form the strategic objectives that an on-line proposition should deliver. User research entails defining the needs and behaviours of the key user groups you’re trying to reach.
Usability testing
Determines whether users find a system or website easy to use. It can be employed at various stages of the project, from early designs and prototypes right through to finished products. The scope and context of usability testing will vary depending on your objectives. For example, usability testing can be used to investigate specific issues relating to a user task, or broader issues such as determining whether site design improves or undermines a company’s brand identity.
Business analysis
Understanding key business rules, possible constraints and opportunities, and stakeholder considerations which will help form the boundaries in which the project will be delivered. Understanding how to deliver a digital project is usually a complex task because it invariably involves multiple stakeholders and departments within one or multiple organisations.
